I. The Core Role of Stacker Cranes (The Central Execution Unit of the Automated Storage and Retrieval System)
The stacker crane is the core equipment in an automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS) that enables three-dimensional storage and retrieval of high-rise racks. All inbound, outbound, and relocation operations are performed by the stacker crane, making it the "transportation engine" of warehouse automation.
1. Basic Operational Functions (Three-Dimensional Motion)
The stacker crane moves horizontally along the aisle's vertical tracks, lifts vertically, and extends its forks in a three-axis linkage, completing three core actions:
• Inbound: Precisely storing pallets/bins on the conveyor line into any high-rise storage location.
• Outbound: Retrieving goods from deep within the racks and delivering them to the aisle transfer station.
• Relocation: Adjusting storage locations, inventory counting, batch sorting, and first-in, first-out (FIFO) turnover. Positioning accuracy is ±1~2mm, with laser + encoder dual positioning to prevent misplacement and misretrieval.

• Adapts to rack heights of 5-40m, compared to traditional forklifts' maximum height of only 3m, increasing warehouse density by 3-4 times and significantly saving land/factory rent;
• Narrow aisle design (only 0.5-1m wider than equipment), saving 60% of aisle space compared to forklift aisles.
3. Fully Automated Process Hub
Integrates with the entire system to form an unmanned closed loop:
1. Receives WMS order instructions → WCS issues actions;
2. Connects with conveyor lines, RGVs, AGVs, and sorting machines to complete the connection;
3. Integrates barcode/RFID automatic identification and transmits inventory data in real time;
4. Continuous operation 24/7, with 30-60 storage and retrieval operations per aisle per hour, replacing 3-6 forklift operators.
4. Safety and Inventory Management Platform
Features multiple protections including overload, overspeed, slack rope, location detection, collision avoidance, and emergency stop. Damage and picking error rates are close to zero, supporting high-compliance warehousing scenarios such as pharmaceuticals, automotive, and food.
5. Classified Adaptation for Different Scenarios
1. Single-Column Stacker Crane: Lightweight and low-cost, load capacity ≤1000kg, height ≤12m, suitable for small parts bins and light pallets;
2. Double-Column Stacker Crane: High rigidity, heavy-duty high-rise, load capacity 1~5 tons, height 12~40m, suitable for manufacturing raw materials and heavy-duty pallets;
3. Bin-Type Stacker Crane: Suitable for small turnover boxes and e-commerce small items, lightweight and high-speed model;
